Can this Series be called as a Japanese version of Squid game? Is it Worth Watching?

We all know that the Korean series Squid Game has taken the world by storm and is on the way to become the most viewed show on Netflix in the first 28 days. But did you knew that there is a Japanese series as well which has almost the same concept as of Squid Game? Well the name of the series is 'Alice In Borderland' and it is available on Netflix. It was released in December 2020 and according to the sources, it is renewed for season 2 and the filming is under way.

So are both the series same?

No Not at all and it would be very wrong of me to term this series as the Japanese version of Squid Game either. All I am saying is that the concept is similar but the plot is very different. We know that the squid game has a series of games and if you are unable to complete the games you are eliminated, ELIMINATED FROM LIFE. Well that's the same in Alice In Borderland too. Multiple games, finish it before time and you would be alive and if you are unable to do, you are dead. Both the series are very different but are based on the concept of  'win the games and you live, lose the game and you lose your life'.

About 'Alice In Borderland' -

Alice In Borderland is a Japanese series which is produced by Netflix Originals where three friends mysteriously find themselves in an emptied Tokyo city where they have to win series of dangerous, mysterious games to stay alive. There are many other players apart from these three and are selected randomly. While the main purpose is to survive the games, another purpose is to collect the cards as the difficulty level of the games are based on the suits of the deck of the cards ( Diamond, Spade, Club and Heart) with each suit deciding the genre of the game as well as the difficulty level of the game. The games played in the series are totally random games.

Review -

I wasn't aware of this series and so obviously I watched Squid Games first. When I got to know about this series, I thought to give it a try. During the initial parts of the first episode, I felt like it is quite similar to the squid game but after few scenes, I was already hooked. Very unexpected games, unexpected twists and turns and as I said story is very different. The way the intensity of the scenes are showed, not a single boring moment in the entire 8 episodes. So if you loved watching Squid Games, you are definitely gonna love this show and the characters too. It is very different from Squid Games so yes the show is worth your time.

I hope you liked my review of the series. Do check out my other reviews as well.

Thank you
